Department of Feed Safety

Last modified: 24. October 2022

The Department located in Gödöllő has an own animal experimentation space and a laboratory suitable for the testing of feeds and food raw materials of animal origin and for the performance of clinical biochemical tests. The animal experimentation facility currently allows the performance of animal nutrition and feed toxicological tests in broiler chickens and laying hens, with great emphasis on studies with mycotoxins. The animal experimentation space has a low-capacity feed-mixing equipment for producing the experimental diets in mash form. The feed analysis laboratory of the Department offers an opportunity for determining the most important nutrients of feeds. The biochemistry laboratory primarily measures clinical biochemical metabolic parameters and studies certain elements of the lipid peroxidation and antioxidant defence systems.

The teaching activity of the Department covers animal nutrition science and the related disciplines on basic, master’s, doctoral and postgraduate training levels. Through its connections with companies operating in the feed industry, the Department also provides consultancy and participates in R&D projects related to animal nutrition.

Research fields of the Department:

  • Effects of alternative feeds and additives (e.g. phytobiotics) on the production parameters of poultry and on the quality of poultry products (meat, eggs)
  • Study of the metabolic parameters related to feeding in swine
  • Effect of mycotoxins on lipid peroxidation processes and on the glutathione system and its regulation.
